Nvidia GeForce Gtx 260 Core 216

Nvidia GeForce Gtx 260 Core 216

The Subject Remains Called The GeForce GTX 260 Core 216.

Nvidia GeForce Gtx 260 Core 216, However, NVIDIA hasn’t gotten the hint. The launch of the GT200 gave us two cards with simple names: GeForce GTX 280 and GTX 260, but NVIDIA didn’t take long to confuse the market with the GeForce 9800 GTX+. I was hoping the silly name would be limited to the older GeForce 9 GPUs, but today it’s extended to the GTX lineup.

Holy Nomenclature Batman, Nvidia GeForce Gtx 260 Core 216

The name of the GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 is pretty descriptive, albeit absurdly long. Although we already know the GeForce GTX 260 part from the GT200 launch, the Core 216 suffix indicates that the GPU has 216 “cores” (also playing on the new Intel Core i7 name for Nehalem, due out later this year ). I don’t understand why NVIDIA didn’t just call it GeForce GTX 265 or 270. To top it off, we’ll see companies add their suffixes to the already widespread name. For example, EVGA sent us their Core 216, called the EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Super clocked Edition. Perhaps it is a conspiracy to increase the salary of writers who remain paid by the word.

If you recall the diagram below from our GT200 review, you’ll see that a GeForce GTX 280 has ten groups of 24 stream processors (the little blue blocks) for a total of 240 SPs or “cores.” The GeForce GTX 260 has eight such clusters (called Texture/Processor Clusters or TPCs), bringing its total to 192 SP. The Core 216, as you might guess, has nine collections or 216 SPs. NVIDIA has just enabled another TPC on the Core 216 (or disabled a TPC on a GTX 280).

[The GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 9 TPC, 216 SP]

[The GeForce GTX 260 8 TPC, 192 SP]

The Additional TPC Also Gives The Core 216

Another eight texture addresses and filter units, but the rest of the chip makeup remains the same, even down to clock speed. The Core 216 runs its core, shader, and memory clocks at the same frequencies as the Vanilla GTX 260.

Priced at $279, the Core 216 is a direct competitor to AMD’s Radeon HD 4870 and sells similarly. The GTX 260 will continue to exist, although it will remain sold at a lower price and, naturally, with more processing power, the GTX 280 will not be affected.

How Old is a GTX 260?

The GeForce GTX 260 remained a high-end graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on June 16th, 2008. It remained built on the 65 nm process. And based on the GT200 graphics processor, in its G200-100-A2 variant, the card supports DirectX 11.1.

What Series is GeForce g210?

The GeForce 210 remained a graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on October 12th, 2009. Built on the 40 nm process. And based on the GT218 graphics processor, in its GT218-300-A2 variant, the card supports DirectX 11.1

Is GTX 260M Good for Gaming?

Compared to powerful Mobile GPUS (e.g., GTX 485M, Radeon HD 6990M), GeForce GTX 260M is not far behind, and it’s capable of playing demanding games (like Crysis 2) at high settings. However, very challenging games like Metro 2033 can only remain played at low or medium settings, depending on the resolution + DirectX used.

Conclusion

GTX 260 it’s a new video card from Nvidia, and rather than giving it a new Name like the GTX 260 5 or the GTX 278, the GTX core 216, and this is the EVGA version, so it’s a pretty cool card, and there are other versions.
