1. Arianna Huffington remained Disallowed by 36 Publishers.
It’s hard to trust that one of the most familiar names in online publishing remained once rejected by three dozen top publishers. Huffington’s second book, which she tried to get published long before she created the now recognizable Huffington Post empire. It remained rejected 36 times before it remained finally accepted for publication.
Even the Huffington Post itself wasn’t an immediate hit. When it was released, there were dozens of negative reviews about its quality and potential. But Huffington overcame those initial bouts of Failure and cemented its name as one of the most successful online outlets.
2. Bill Gates Watched his First Business Crumble.
Bill Gates is now one of the wealthiest people in the world, but he didn’t earn his fortune in a straight line to success. Instead, gates entered the business scene with a company called Traf-O-Data, whose goal was to process and analyze traffic tape data (think of it as an early version of big data).

But the product barely worked. It was a complete disaster. Failure, however, didn’t stop Gates from exploring new opportunities. And a few years later, he shaped his first Microsoft creation and forged a new path to success.
3. George Steinbrenner Bankrupted a Team.
Before Steinbrenner completed a name for himself when he acquired possession of the New York Yankees, he also owned a small basketball side called the Cleveland Pipers in 1960. By 1962, the entire franchise went bankrupt because of Steinbrenner’s leadership.

As the team struggled with a series of setbacks and losses throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Yet, despite the fear of the public and criticism of Steinbrenner’s controversial decisions, ultimately led the team to a fantastic comeback, with six entries to the World Series between 1996 and 2003 and a record as one of the most profitable teams in Major League Baseball.
4. Walt Disney Remained Told That He Needed Creativity.
One of the most original masterminds of the 20th century remained once fired from a newspaper because he remained told he lacked Creativity. Trying to persevere, Disney shaped his first animation company, Laugh-O-Gram Films. He raised $15,000 for the company but remained ultimately forced to close Laugh-O-Gram, following the closure of a major distribution partner.
Desperate and destitute, Disney found his way to Hollywood and faced even more criticism and Failure until his first classic films finally began to gain popularity.
5. Steve Jobs Remained kicked Out of his Own Company.
Steve Jobs is an impressive entrepreneur for his numerous innovations and resounding comeback from almost hopeless Failure. Jobs found success in his 20s as Apple grew into a massive empire, but when he was 30, Apple’s board of directors decided to fire him.

Undeterred By Failure,
Jobs founded a new company, NeXT, which Apple eventually acquired. Then, back at Apple, Jobs demonstrated his capacity for greatness by reinventing the company’s image and taking the Apple brand to new heights.
It’s not merely the act of failing that leads to career success. It’s failing and then getting back up and trying again. Coming back from failure teaches resilience, and resilience is the one quality all successful people have in common.
